Welcome!
Made in Brooklyn is my place to document my creative journey, from bread to babies, cards to cakes. You are welcome to come and join me for a while.
- I stopped teaching Kindergarten in 2005 to become the mom of two crazy boys here in Brooklyn. At first I thought being a stay at home mom meant that I needed to pour all my time and energy directly into my sons, but I realized somewhere along the way that being a rockstar mom meant not only taking good care of my boys, but also taking good care of myself. And taking good care of myself means pursuing something creative...just about everyday. I started Made In Brooklyn to motivate myself in my creative goals as well as share my work with others and perhaps inspire them in their own creative journeys.

around here
There are pumpkins EVERYWHERE. I don’t know how we got so may pumpkins this year. A real Halloween mystery. And these pumpkins are the most loved pumpkins ever. The boys gather them and sort them by size. Isaac walks around … Continue reading

chores and art class
I’ve been trying to get Isaac to do a few chores around here. Andrew’s been doing chores for a while (clearing the table, making the beds on the weekends, cleaning up messes, helping with the trash), but it was trickier … Continue reading

changes
Even though we’ve been settled into our current rhythm for about 8 months now, I keep realizing it over and over. A few weeks ago I was noticing that it was changing how much time I could spend on making … Continue reading

home and adventure
We live in a neighborhood-y section of Brooklyn. We rent a small apartment above a store (owned by a sometimes-loud lady on the phone, who would probably describe us as often-loud and always running around). We have two bedrooms, one … Continue reading

around my home
I think it’s looking pretty Christmas-y around here. But this morning, during breakfast, Andrew admitted that he wished it was even Christmas-ier. I aim for this look every year. Green and white. Clean and simple. And this year I have … Continue reading

my turn
Yesterday it was my turn with the stomach bug. That really is the worst way to be sick. I must say I prefer a nice, cozy cold to a stomach bug any day. I had a fever and spent the … Continue reading

calendars
I saw this idea in my January Martha Stewart magazine. I opened to this page, looked at the calendar for a minute, stood up and went to the computer to order some happy tape. Sometimes you just gotta act. ;) … Continue reading

in with the new
then: now: then: now: then: now: Late last night I was hanging pictures and adjusting quilts. Trying to figure out where this and that will go. So, as of 8:15 this morning, this is what we got. There is still … Continue reading

floors
I often measure how together I feel by the status of my floors. If I’m walking around on dirty floors, hopping over toys to get to the ringing phone, in a ridiculous game of hopscotch, then I’ve probably said to … Continue reading

pasta making: check
I did it! Last night I made pasta! I have to admit, I’ve tried it before. I tried it last fall with pumpkin filled raviolis and it was a complete flop. The filling oozed out of the little pockets and … Continue reading
