I used a recipe for Rice Krispies Treats, but I used honey nut cheerios instead of Rice Kripies. And I found a variation where you add coconut and coconut extract, so I did that too.
When the kids got home from school I told them I made them a treat.
“They are kind of like Rice Krispie bars.”
“What’s that?” Andrew asks.
“you don’t know what Rice Krispie bars are?”
“no.”
“Do you know what Rice Krispies are?”
“no.”
“ok. well. I think you are going to like them.”
My kids are so weird. How do they not know this stuff??
Cherrio Bars
3 T butter
10 oz bag of marshmallows
1/2 t salt
1/2 t almond extract
6 cups cheerios
1 cup flaked coconut
Melt the butter and marshmallows in a pan on the stovetop, stirring until smooth. Add salt and extract to the melted marshmallow mix. In a large bowl combine coconut and cheerios. Pour marshmallow mixture over the cereal mixture and stir until cereal is evenly coated. Press mixture into a 9×13 inch glass pan using wax paper to protect your hands from becoming WAY too messy. Allow bars to cool before cutting.
Delicious! :)

Lol. I actually do the same, except I put in granola cereal. Voila! Homemade granola bars that my Hubby can take to work and their cheaper and healthier than buying them.
Yours look yummy!!
But did they eat them?!
oh yeah!
holy smokes! i want to run to the store right now. i love every item on that ingredient list.
I have every single ingredient listed, plus two Cheerios-loving kids [that don't know what Rice Krispies or their treats are ;)]. I think I just found my weekend baking project to do with the kiddos.
