December Daily: Days 13-15

It’s getting thicker! I still have 10 days to get in there and I’m wondering if I’ll need larger rings to hold it all. :)

For the 13th I recorded our nightly storytime which has taken a dramatic shift for the holidays. Not only do we read by the Christmas tree…we read fiction! A big break for my non-fiction lovin’ boy. And a welcome change for this mama who loves to use her storybook voice. ;)

The 14th was all about making a party mix. Great use of a day, no? Deb of PaperTurtle showed this party mix on her blog and in her instagram feed and I knew I wanted to make it for Andrew’s Gingerbread party. But, I could not find any bugles to make those santa hats. I mentioned the dilemma to her over instagram and she put a bag of bugles, some candy melts and EVEN some teeny marshmallows in the mail for me! Sweet, sweet woman, that Deb.

And then Saturday was the party! Andrew invited all of his classmates and four of the six were able to come. The kids had a FANTASTIC time. It was really, really sweet. They have such adorable, accepting friendships.

For the page above, one side is the invitation to the party. I added some journaling about the party around the edge. On the other side is a photo of Andrew with two of his friends…it’s SUCH a cute photo…but I blurred their faces to protect those sweet cuties.

The party started off with some gingerbread decorating. I was really surprised how much they enjoyed that!

Sometime during the party two of the boys went into the kitchen, found my pack of post it notes and made little notes for Andrew.  I included them on a narrow piece of cardstock.  One is shown above and one is shown below.

And now both boys have fever and coughs. ug. falalalala.

About robyn

I stopped teaching Kindergarten in 2005 to become the mom of two crazy boys here in Brooklyn. At first I thought being a stay at home mom meant that I needed to pour all my time and energy directly into my sons, but I realized somewhere along the way that being a rockstar mom meant not only taking good care of my boys, but also taking good care of myself. And taking good care of myself means pursuing something creative...just about everyday. I started Made In Brooklyn to motivate myself in my creative goals as well as share my work with others and perhaps inspire them in their own creative journeys.

I have had the cough, Mr M has it now. My son-in-law had it over the weekend and Miss Em is having sofa days because she is flattened by it. This means that everyone will have stopped coughing by Saturday and Christmas will be much quieter than this week. I refuse to say that everyone will be healthy because the Karma Pixies are listening!

  2. I’m such a big fan of your mini-books, no matter what the occassion, and this December daily is no exception. And! I’m in it! :) I’m pretty sure day 14 is going to be my favorite spread…but the month is still fairly young…

Glad the kids had fun, sorry to hear that your boys are both sick. No fun!

Just delightful. Wow…how neat to find the notes….their mothers must be instilling all the right values in them…just as you are doing with your boys. A great tradition, a wonderful memory and with delicious outcomes. Thanks for sharing your hard work and your loves.
