Boo!

– It certainly doesn’t feel like Halloween. It feels like we are stuck in a time warp. The kids are still home and the trains are still down.

– But…it IS Halloween, so we are going to make the spookiest of it.

– We’ve become local news junkies binging on NY1…which really only covers the city itself with an occasional update on New Jersey. And really? New Jersey got it worse than anybody, as far as I can tell. :(

– There is a neighborhood in Queens that completely burned down. Over 80 homes were destroyed. I just can’t imagine that.

– The night of the hurricane the winds were so strong and SO LOUD that we moved our mattress into the dining room because I couldn’t sleep with all of that noise. I didn’t really think anything would be blown into the window…although something could have! but the noise was pretty unbelievable.

– We went for a walk yesterday to see some of neighborhood. We saw trees and lightposts down, ripping up sections of the sidewalk. But compared to what we are seeing in Staten Island, Queens and New Jersey…we very lightly hit.

– Everyone I know of in the area all seem to be fine. A few are without power, but everyone seems a-okay. So…that’s good at least! :)

– And so with that…we celebrate Halloween!

Happy Halloween!

About robyn

I stopped teaching Kindergarten in 2005 to become the mom of two crazy boys here in Brooklyn. At first I thought being a stay at home mom meant that I needed to pour all my time and energy directly into my sons, but I realized somewhere along the way that being a rockstar mom meant not only taking good care of my boys, but also taking good care of myself. And taking good care of myself means pursuing something creative...just about everyday. I started Made In Brooklyn to motivate myself in my creative goals as well as share my work with others and perhaps inspire them in their own creative journeys.

So glad you are all safe from the storm!! Will the boys go out tonight to trick or treat? or has Bay Ridge cancelled it? (Lest you think I am totally hard-hearted, the scenes of NY and NJ leave me in tears!!)

oh mom. I have no doubt of the smushiness of your heart. ;) The scenes in NJ and NY are VERY sad, aren’t they?

I’m not really sure what will happen tonight. We might get dressed up and walk around…just to be silly. But I have a feeling there will be people out and about. :)

So pleased you are all safe. The news footage that we are seeing in the UK is just so sad. The damage caused it just horrible to see. I do hope that you and your boys get to do your normal Halloween things tonight, and that things get cleared up as quickly as possible. I can’t imagine how long it will be before those subways are drained and cleaned and open again.

  3. Hey Robyn ~ So glad to see this post as I have been wondering about you guys and hoping all was well. Your Halloween card is adorable! xo
