Party Update

Two days until Andrew’s Party and I am getting excited. All but ONE of his classmates called to say that they are coming! Something that I just find amazing! Several of the parents said things like “he said: ‘I just have to go to that party!'” or “she wouldn’t miss it!” and as each parent called I jumped around, pleased as punch for each one that called. These kids will be traveling a long time for this. One of them is coming from Queens and I think it will take him about 2 hours to get here…and he’s STILL coming! “Don’t worry.” said his mom “he LOVES the train!”

I feel so grateful that these parents are so willing to do this. (can you tell?)

I also feel excited to have time to talk to the parents. I’ve met all but one, but I’ve never really sat to chat with any of them. I’m curious how it will go and hopeful to start building a small community with these parents…all of whom are on the same journey I’m on.

And…I’m also worried that I am a little too excited…that’ll I’ll overwhelm them at the door with my enthusiasm or things WON’T go as I hope and I’ll be crushed. ahhh…the down side to feeling excited. :) oh well. It’s worth the risk.

All last week, Andrew would update the class on who I have heard from and reminded the others to remind their parents to call me. One little girl, who’s grandmother called me to RSVP, brought Andrew a note to school that said “I would love to come to your party.” oh man. So sweet!

So, Andrew and I have been preparing. Andrew wanted a “Machinarium” Party. Machinarium is a computer game that he plays. It has a robot that has to solve all of these tricky puzzles. So, I downloaded several graphics of that little robot and a pattern for a Machinarium paper doll…which you can see partially assembled in the photo above (he still needs arms and legs).

I added the little robot to welcome signs…

and goodie bags…

and to the Birthday Banner I made which has photos of Andrew from 3 days old until present day.

so…that’s the update! On deck today? Cleaning! :)

About robyn

I stopped teaching Kindergarten in 2005 to become the mom of two crazy boys here in Brooklyn. At first I thought being a stay at home mom meant that I needed to pour all my time and energy directly into my sons, but I realized somewhere along the way that being a rockstar mom meant not only taking good care of my boys, but also taking good care of myself. And taking good care of myself means pursuing something creative...just about everyday. I started Made In Brooklyn to motivate myself in my creative goals as well as share my work with others and perhaps inspire them in their own creative journeys.
