at our house

We lost the remote to our AppleTV a while back.  Tiny things that they are, and eager TV watchers that we have, I’m not surprised.  So, Dave reprogrammed a remote we had for an air conditioner to work for the AppleTV.  When I want to turn up the volume I choose “temperature up”.  When I want to change the channel, I press “fan slower” or “fan faster”.  The “energy saver” button is what used to be “select” and the “cool” button is what used to be “menu”.

But, now that we are using both, the AppleTV AND the air conditioner, things get a little dicey from time to time…because the remote still works with the air conditioner too. Last night, as I was selecting a show to watch (I’m almost through my first season of Modern Family and I am completely hooked.  My brother introduced to me to this show and I love it!),  the buttons I pressed on the remote not only started the show for me, but also reset the air conditioner thermostat to be 83 degrees and I turned on the “energy saver” feature.  All by pressing two buttons.

And can I just say that that kind of thing is SO TYPICAL around here.

I told you that Dave sucked the glass off the front of the computer with a toilet plunger so he could replace the hard drive, right?  Did I tell you that one?  It was almost a year ago now, but man, that story needs to be legendary.  Makes the dual-action remote sound a little elementary.

Also typical around here?  Cake for breakfast.   Sure the recipe says, “Coffee Cake Sour Cream Muffins“, but we know the truth.  It’s cake and we love it.

About robyn

I stopped teaching Kindergarten in 2005 to become the mom of two crazy boys here in Brooklyn. At first I thought being a stay at home mom meant that I needed to pour all my time and energy directly into my sons, but I realized somewhere along the way that being a rockstar mom meant not only taking good care of my boys, but also taking good care of myself. And taking good care of myself means pursuing something creative...just about everyday. I started Made In Brooklyn to motivate myself in my creative goals as well as share my work with others and perhaps inspire them in their own creative journeys.

Your brother downloaded a remote to my iPhone to do the Apple tv. Why don’t you do that. However, I love the idea of randon appliances responding to tv choices!! wow to Dave’s brain!

wow… being the techno-twitt that I am, I really don’t understand how the fan remote can be turned into a tv remote. I wish my brain worked like Dave’s…

Your hub sounds like a creative fixer, kind of like a MacGyver type! That, plus cake for breakfast makes your place sound like fun :)

  6. That’s awesome! I love that the craziness that we all experience in our lives is always related to by another woman out there in the word somewhere! I hope Santa brings you a new remote, even though hubby seems to be quite the McGuiver!

so that’s it? Dave sucked the glass right off the computer with a plunger and that’s all you tell us? My mind is in turmoil now, filled with pictures of Dave attacking the computer…………. I need to lie down!
    The sun biscuits look divine!

We have the same remote/ac thing. But I’ve never done anything with a toilet plunger that was not in the manufacturer’s recommendations.

But! We also regularly lose our Apple TV remote and guess what! There’s an app for that. Now when it’s missing I can just use my phone!
