This weekend I wanted to go hiking. Like a real hike in the woods, going uphill, and feeling a sense of victory upon reaching the top. ;) And I got what I wanted! It was so, so good.

It was a pretty warm day (Isaac’s in a hat here because he wanted to wear it…he really didn’t need it. Well, he didn’t need at this point in the hike…). For a lot of the hike Andrew and I walked together and we talked and talked…but NOT about minecraft. It was a mama’s dream come true! I try so hard to be a good sport about hearing his endless rambling about minecraft, but I also need *other* conversations with that kid. We mostly talked about the hike itself and things we were noticing about the snow and the streams forming from snowmelt and the clouds going by. I loved it.

Meanwhile…Dave was mostly carrying Isaac up the mountain. Isaac’s gotten a lot better at hiking and has been building endurance…but he was slipping around on the snow and wasn’t feeling it. So, Dave gave him a boost.

Even Andrew got a few minutes on Dave’s shoulders. :) Lucky duck!

And this is what we found at the top of the mountain:

It’s an abandoned hotel. It was very spooky and cool. We explored all around it.

And we recharged with snacks and rest.

And then it started snowing! It had been bright blue skies all the way up! I was warm enough in my sweater and vest! So it felt so surreal to be suddenly in a snowstorm. :)

And the snowstorm spooked me a little. I didn’t want us to get stuck in a bad situation, so we started the hike back down the mountain…and we ended up hiking right out of that cloud.

Back to blue skies. :)

The whole thing was just what this mama needed.

And it was a very quiet and sleepy ride home. :)

Hope yours a good one!

About robyn

I stopped teaching Kindergarten in 2005 to become the mom of two crazy boys here in Brooklyn. At first I thought being a stay at home mom meant that I needed to pour all my time and energy directly into my sons, but I realized somewhere along the way that being a rockstar mom meant not only taking good care of my boys, but also taking good care of myself. And taking good care of myself means pursuing something creative...just about everyday. I started Made In Brooklyn to motivate myself in my creative goals as well as share my work with others and perhaps inspire them in their own creative journeys.
